Introduction
Unsettling Memories is a hypothetical design artist book and exhibition at the LACMA Museum in Los Angeles, California. The theme explores the interconnections between a selection of North and South American artists concerning their connection to the Land they are on. The project provided an opportunity to examine sequential design through print and spatial design.
The curation of 10 different artists, and the selected project, expands on themes of colonialism, imperialism, history, and Land. The book was handbound, 8" x 10", and divided into three sections: North, South, and an essay by Eduardo Galeano in the middle.
Poster Design
Following the Artist Catalogue, marketing products such as posters and billboards emulate the typographic identity of the catalogue. The visual identity utilizes the imagery of the exhibit’s works and allows them to live in spaces outside of the museum
Exhibit Design
The main challenge was the balance between the branding of the exhibition and that translation onto a spatial space. As seen below at the entrance of the exhibit and the artists' wing, the collaboration between the artist's work, theme, and design create a multidimensional experience.
